Dr. David Chao earned his medical degree from the John A. Burns School of Medicine at the University of Hawaii in Honolulu and completed his internship, residency and fellowship training at Los Angeles County-University of Southern California Medical Center.
Dr. Chao, who speaks Chinese, has been in practice since 1988. He is board certified in pulmonology, sleep medicine and critical care medicine. His primary clinical interests are chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD, a condition involving constriction of the airways and difficulty or discomfort in breathing), asthma, pulmonary hypertension, sleep apnea, parasomnia, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary infections and thromboembolic disease.
Prior to practicing in Houston, Dr. Chao was an assistant clinical professor at the University of California-Los Angeles School of Medicine and the University of Southern California School of Medicine. He also served as director of the Sleep Medicine Lab, intensive care unit and respiratory care unit at Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
